Dysphania ambrosioides

Case 4.11: Chenopodium anthelminticum
(Homeopathic Links)

For example I would like to add here a case of mysterious deafness, treated by Dr. Baig. A two-and-half-year-old boy, partially deaf and partially dumb, was the first child of his parents; the mother was thirty year old. The child was totally deaf towards human voices but could easily hear the sounds of music. To confirm that a metal cup was dropped on the floor behind him to which he responded.
The history revealed that just at the time of labour-pains the need for surgery was decided suddenly. Until a few moments before every thing was normal. What happened was that the child took the position of facial presentation, and thus got stuck inside. Now the panic started, or rather, was created. The lady doctor said that without operation the labour couldn't be carried out, and discussed about fees! The parents were from the economical class; a sudden demand of a big money was a problem for them. The mother was fully conscious and fighting with pains, while her sister and the staff of the labour room were bargaining about charges, so some time was wasted on making a deal. Finally the baby was delivered through caesarean. Now the child showed signs of asphyxia, and a next phase of panic started. Relatives were told to move the baby immediately to an artificial respirator. Again big money was involved (Rs.1200/- in Indian currency per day), and again some more time was wasted in arranging the money. (In India hospitals charge in advance, in forms of deposits).

With this information Dr. Baig decided a remedy for the child. Homeopathy has one such remedy, which has symptoms of cerebral apoplexy and paralytic affection of hearing nerves because of asphyxia and to my surprise that drug also had this cardinal symptom, cannot hear human voices! This remedy is a famous herb; natives of Singapore and Sumatra were using it for worms. It was also used by the orthodox medical system, but was discarded by them because of its apoplectic, asphytic and aphasic effects. I was thrilled to see one more example of likes to be treated by likes.

That remedy was Chenopodium, 30 potency, single dose daily for two weeks, supported with Nosode-I (4), which is in molecular dilution of Carcinosinum. The indication for Nosode I was that the mother while at labour received a high-grade psychological trauma because of apathy of such doctors and such hospitals, explains Baig. The patient did well on the combination of these two remedies
