Spinacia oleracea

Case 4.14: Spinacia
By Anton Kramer

Male, 51 yr.
Atrocious pains in sternum, a little lateral of the nipples extending around the chest to the right scapula and to the right biceps. Worse lying down and at night, < 1.00-3.00.
It feels as sore, pressing, cramping and stitching. In fact the oesophagus is not painfull; he never experienced sour or burning there.
The cause is hernia diafragmatica. He has had many treatments and medication. The ‘pijnpoli’ injected the painfull spots in arm and near the nipples.
Recently he had a infectious bursitis in his left elbow and cystitis with pain in the prepuce and testikels when he did not urinate, better urinating.
He is very closed and timid, problems stay inside. He is quiet and rather social. Sensitive for problems of others, wants to help. Restless, wants to do something all the time in a quiet way. He sees the dark side of everything. His father had the same character and put himself on the background. Our patient does the same; his wife has same traits so it gives no stress. His mother was dominant and forced her ideas. Patient struggled sometimes against her.
After several remedies I gave Kali-bi because the pains radiate to the upper arm; it helped reasonably well. But something better had to be found. Then I thought of Oxalicum acidum for the same modality; this helped great for a very short time. So Oxalis acetosella followed and Kalium oxalicum; the latter helped better then anything.
In fact most of the homeopathics had helped much better than the allopathic treatment.
But he needed the remedies too frequent.
Next step ??!! As we were preparing this seminar I looked again in his food modalities. Spinach was the worst for him to eat. So I gave him Spinacia.
He is doing much better, slowly taking less and less allopathic medicin.

Note: Spinacia (Dutch name: spinazie) contains large amounts of oxalic acid.
