655.41.12 Ruta graveolens, Case
Case by Alex Leupen.
Woman, 23, periostitis.
Astrid is the goalie in the field hockey team. Three months ago, she got a ball on the back of her left foot. Since then she has had a hard painful line on the back of the foot, which is worse when she wears closed shoes, with hard pressure, standing or walking for prolonged periods. Her foot is warm and swollen, better with ice applications. During the first week after the injury she also experienced pain during the night between 3 and 5 am. The pain causes irritability and irritability worsens the pain.
She is a freelancer. In the evening hours she is taking a correspondence course in journalism. She has studied pharmacy and physical therapy, each for a year.
She is the youngest of three children, has a brother and sister. It was always cosy at home with games, she had a protected childhood. She moved out on her own 3 years ago, which gave her a lonely feeling. She went to the pub every night with others and drank too much. As a child she had a fear of dogs, loud noises and darkness. She was fearful and shy. When she had a fever, she would not dare close her eyes, afraid she would die, saying “I will not wake up again”. She is unable to tolerate scary films. She can become angry about watching the suffering of children in the Third World on television, or she can cry. She is very occupied with the afterlife, reincarnation and parapsychology.
In her childhood she had mumps. In puberty she had acne on her forehead and chin and cystitis every year. At 20 she was hit by a stone on her Achilles’ tendon, which stayed swollen for a long time, worse during sports and going upstairs; it was not very painful. She has herpes labialis once every two years.
Dreams: sometimes scary dreams about ghosts or spirits.
Weather: very chilly; cold hands and feet.
Desire: crazy about meat; fish; crispy bacon; salty, cheese; smokes 15 cigarettes per day.
Aversion: beer !, whipped cream !.
Analysis
Ruta graveolens: fear of dying during fever; periostitis.
Considering her fear of death as a child, this is a constitutional Ruta case. It is remarkable that at a later age she becomes a goalie, asking to be hit, as it were.
Follow up
