Subfamily Rosoideae: aggregate fruits made up of small achenes or drupelets; often the fleshy part of the is the receptacle or the stalk bearing the carpels; 6 tribes; ± 20 genera Rosa, Rubus, Fragaria, Potentilla, Geum.
Subfamily Amygdaloideae: traditionally known as Maloideae or Pyroideae; include in the former Spiraeoideae and Amygdaloideae to make them monophyletic. The name Spiraeoideae is not permitted by the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants.
Subfamily Dryadoideae: fruits are achenes with hairy styles; most with root nodules with nitrogen-fixing bacteria Frankia; 5 genera: Dryas, Cercocarpus, Chamaebatia, Cowania, and Purshia.
