Drepananthus ridleyi

Botany
Monopodal tree; tight almost spherical crown; light loving, tends to grow quickly towards openings in the crown.
Stem: spiral of branches radiating from the main trunk; twigs with peeling bark, densely hairy when young; many twists and turns, due to changing light conditions; up to 1500 m elevation.
Leaves: alternate, in one plane, resulting in zig-zag shaped twig; large; stipules absent; fat petioles, lower surface whitish and with clearly visible venation. Inflorescences: axillary, in bundles on short stalks.
Flowers: small outer whorl of three setals, and six extremely elongated petals; green coloured.
Fruits: apocarps; each carpel sessile; green; round; ± 3 cm diameter.
