Colchicum autumnale

Case 1.7: COLCHICUM Marguerite Pelt
A 41-year-old woman comes to surgery because of her joint problems that started more than a year and a half ago with a constant nagging pain in the right shoulder radiating to the shoulder blade and the elbow. Later on, the pains are long jumped in the ankles, hips and fingers. The intensity of the pains also varies, sometimes so much that she can't do anything except sit on a chair. Other modalities: rest. The symptoms started half a year after her husband had been very ill.
She also says that she is irritable and snappy with her symptoms and that she is "quarrelsome" these days. I can't observe any of this during the consultation.
Generals
Temp: cold feet, hands, nose
Preference: Dislike: Thirst: Menses: Sleeping: Def: Face: Hair:
chocolate (2), sweet (1)
fat (1), alcohol
she gets a headache if she doesn't drink on time.
hysterectomy due to meno-metrorism.
Salivation flood (2), talking asleep (1)
constipation
jaws crack when opening the mouth, dry lips (sheets) grey
Skin: itching and red spots after contact with water Nose: sharp smell, she smells everything
Mind
Patient is very busy. She is a bit calmer now than she used to be when she worked even harder and everything she could and was allowed to do. She is very social, helps other people a lot. And she can't take it easy. In general, she is cheerful, a pusher, she doesn't whine. What she does, she does well and when someone at home says something wrong, he gets the full blast.
Fears: fear of heights, giddy at heights.
The patient has a son. After the second pregnancy, which ended in abortion because of rubella, it turned out that she could not have any more children. At first she was "big" but after a year the reaction came. She got migraine and then she was so nauseous and sick that she had to keep her bed rest. Over time, she accepted that she would not have any more children and the symptoms have improved. Also now the symptoms of the joints seem to have arisen after a "refractory period" after her husband's illness.
Prescription
The drug Colchicum was thought of because the patient had such a sharp smell. Acute smell (2w). She was not hypersensitive to the smell of fish, egg or boiled food, but she had been very nauseous in her migraine time and she has an aversion to fat.
Aversion fat, headpain with vomiting.
Joint complaints aggravated by fluid and movement are typical of the Colchicum patient:
Joints pain rheumatic
joints pain < motion
Pains wandering
Pain shoulder
With the trias rheumatic complaints, nausea and sharp smell, the prescription of Colchicum seems justified.
In addition, the patient has basal characteristics of the Lilacs. She is busy, likes to work (restlessness) and wants to do everything right (makes high demands).
She has complaints in the pelvic area: with meno-metrorragias and obstipation. Colchicum is not really known for these complaints, but is listed in the sections:
Menses frequent and constipation.
Also the acra are affected coldness foot, hands, nose
The sensitivity for rudeness was not immediately striking. But she did say that "if someone said something wrong at home, they would get the full blast". Clark says "bad manners drive him to distraction".
Other categories typical of colchicum:
Ailments from grief, sorrow, care Irritability during pain Quarrelsomness
Quiets wants to be

Follow up
After an initial aggravation with nausea and vomiting, especially in the morning when getting up and preparing food, the pains improved and she became calmer. She also got a few days
diarrhoea and the feeling of floating. But at the check-up six weeks later the pains had almost disappeared. When asked, she also appeared to have calmed down, got hungry for meat again and was less chilly.
