Botany
Herb; evergreen; climbing vine; 2 m tall.
Leaves: light green; glossy; heart-shaped to triangular; entire margin; 20 cm wide; stipules are located at the base of the leaf stalk.
Flower: brown mottled flower; 15 cm big; protruding lip that looks like a rooster’s wattle; pouch is closed which gives it the classic look of a Dutchman’s pipe; resemble pelicans from the side view; light yellow, covered by a fine net-like pattern in maroon; pouch-like portion is smooth, one of the lips is large and wrinkled.
Fruits: capsules; beige; dry; dehiscent, split open into 6 oblong compartments.
Seeds: surrounded by an ovate wing; 1.5 cm long, 1 cm wide.
Propagation: by seed.
