Apocynum cannabinum
Remedy code: 3-665.26.06
A girl, 18 years old, presents herself as cool and distant, trying to appear unaffected and older than she is. She has long blonde curls, and eye contact is brief and wary, without making much connection, without engaging in any way. It seems like she lives in her own time and her own story. She comes across as tormented. Information has to be pulled out of her, as if from someone unwilling, but there is no emotional charge detectable in her. As a baby, she was treated for ENT issues. Her mother now ‘sends her back’, and they seem very similar in demeanor and behavior. As baby she had night terrors en much clinging to her parents. Now she has had constantly a cold for 5 months, often sick and coughing, which started before the summer. She has always been susceptible; she caught a cold right after birth. Now she also has joint and bone pain, which has been on going for years; her father and grandmother also have it. Her wrists, knees, and ankles even swell up in the summer. This summer the complaints started with a sore throat, she coughed for 8 weeks, and it only subsided after vomiting; it came and went. Either she was cold or felt very light-headed. She is tired, sees black spots, and always has cold hands. At times, due to this spots she can see nothing at all; it comes in waves, even when she is calm. Then she has to lie down; she can’t do anything else. The light-headedness has been present for a longer time, especially when she is busy or stressed. She is very busy with school, which takes a lot of time: "You have to." She is pursuing a creative education with projects, performances, and research, which keeps her occupied for long periods. She always wanted to do design and finds it very enjoyable. School is hard work, but she enjoys it. Acting as education was a first choice for years, but she always had knee pain and lost interest three years ago. The fatigue has been present for a long time, but it is more noticeable now. No fever. Sleep is good; she goes to bed very late because she has so much to do. Hobby: making music.
Analysis
Gold series5: organization and research, acting. Remarkable for her age is the joint complaints and Lanthanide characteristics, but also presentation and performance play a major role. Joints and infections refer to Gold series, cough-throat area to Silver series.
Phase 6: fatigue, almost having to give up (Phase 6, not quite out of Phase 7) due to the knee in an initial stage, Phase 2. The fatigue is most visible, so pointing as Subphase. Later in the follow up she will tell more about her feelings at school, what give a better explanation about Phase and Subphase.
Stage 6: she perseveres and tackles large projects, it’s difficult, it’s a lot, but she begins 'fearlessly'. This behavior could indicate sensitivity to criticism, fitting with Stage 6. The rubric in the Repertorium Swelling joints indicate the remedy Apocynum, which fit many corresponding characteristics. Her eye movement, searching forwards and upward when ‘reading’ her memories, the listening to herself, maintaining distance, and having a strong personal experience or strong imagination, fit with the Lamiidae. This last point is a common and very clear non-verbal confirmation for this Class. This is a very strong mark of recognition in the Lamiales, also in the Solanales, and can be extrapolated to the entire Lamiidae. For this case the rubric swelling joints was passed through, being remarkable at her age, and knowing the ‘picture’ of the Lamiidae and the Stage of the remedy was enough to recognize Apocynum for prescription. Qjure mentions about Gentianales: a strong desire to be well known, admired, to be seen. Worse when there is a failure in their projects. Apocynaceae: want to be independent and autonomous.
Prescription: Apocynum canabium C200.
Follow up after four weeks
The mother accompanies her, staying in the background. When she involves herself in the conversation, the girl quickly becomes irritated, and the mother shows cautiousness, despite her significant involvement. The girl wasn’t sick this weeks and didn’t have colds anymore, having been continuously so for months before. She is still tired but no longer has joint and bone pain, despite having to carry stage blocks frequently. She hasn't felt light-headed anymore but now has pressure behind her eyes. She notices the fatigue in her eyes, and also that she falls asleep immediately when she lies down and dozes off when sitting. School: she just
finished a busy period, and normally the fatigue builds up during such times. If she has a lot of responsibility, it is even worse. Sleep is good, no dreams. She still listens critically, and is serious, waiting, business-like. She goes to bed late; if she have something to do, she do it late. Her energy has been poor since high school, which was also the period with the joint issues. That time? Yes, it was a very unpleasant school; she didn’t get along well with those people, and they didn’t give her a chance to be herself. They ruined the atmosphere. At that time, it was very important to her what everyone thought of her, but in the last year, she finally thought, "Whatever." This is an important theme in indications for Lamiales and thereby also for the Lamiidae, performance, how do I come across from Silver series, the time becoming an independent autonomous person of Gold series. Being yourself is a theme of Gold series, atmosphere and the sensitivity for that, a theme of Silver series. In this second consultation, she better describes the period when the complaints began, the not fitting in with the group: a Lamiales story, being insecure Phase 2, not being appreciated for her behavior and appearance Phase 6, "Whatever, I’ll do my own thing" Stage 6. Control over herself, Stage 6. The complaints did not return, and her energy gradually increases.
