The Greylag goose is an Anseriform belonging to the duck family. In Europe it nests near different waters, marshes, lakes, seashores or fjords. It is migratory. It belongs to the ANSER genus and is the main ancestor of the domesticated goose.
They mainly eat grass and green plants. They are monogamous and are known for their loyalty. They live in flocks, group together in large numbers, especially when they are migrating. They have a tendency to be domesticated – their archetype is Mother Goose.
But the geese are also known for their aggressiveness. It is known from history, that a goose reportedly saved Rome from a Gaul attack. Geese were also used to guard farms and fields similarly to dogs.
Proving of Anser anser was done in Hamburg in 2004 and detailed the character of anseriformes from the duck family. The proving identified three types of ranges:
1. A group with an accent to its structure.
2. A feel of peace, acceptance and self-acceptance.
3. Sharpened sensual perception.
Anser anser has a connection between this world and the spirit world. As all birds it desires freedom and it wants to have levity. Its basic characteristic is caring for the community/group. The strongest thoughts are – inner bond with the group, isolation and exclusion from the group. For the goose a group is defined by its structure – in it there is value and importance. There is a certain military element in it. It could be similar to people finding structure and security in the life of armed forces, which has its order. There is a strong need for structure and methodics. People who were proven were feeling better, when they were organized and had discipline in their lives.
Then there is a feeling, that the group must survive, that life is a struggle to a certain extent and that an individual will not survive without a group. There is strong competition in the group. There is a feeling of self-confidence and belief in one's abilities, which, if disturbed, turns into fear and doubts. It is a panic medicine. The feeling of identity is based on the inner relationships in the group, without this structure the person is weakened. People also have a strong feeling, that they are responsible for maintaining the structure of the group. If the group breaks, they blame themselves.
These features have been described in such a way that the patient finds freedom in the structure of a group. But the difficulties, interweaving and disharmony inside the group hinders freedom and keeps the individual bound.
Another theme of the Greylag goose is the ability to express themselves and creativity – these are bigger in the group than in a pair.
There is an instinctive bird sense for orientation, which has a specific attribute in coming out of the group.
The medicine includes a feeling of calm, peace and acceptance. There is acceptance of things which happened in the world and also the acceptance of oneself. People who were proven have been less critical of themselves and were able to accept themselves as they are.
There is a desire to be clean, attractive and a desire to be wild; there is a desire to hop and skip. The feet are sensitive or painful when walking. There is a great love for dancing and caring for children. Sighing is characteristic for this medicine.
All senses are sharpened, mainly hearing. Irritation and worsening by loud noises, more so than other birds. Eyes are also affected – there are adverse effects: improved sight and vice-versa, fear of blindness.
There are no significant physical symptoms. Teeth are important, there are toothaches or teeth-grinding. Pain is also found behind the neck, or in shoulders and they also have headaches with feelings of tension, which also stem from the neck. Menses comes early. The belly is bloated with a feeling that food has not yet been digested. There is sweat with strong onion odour. There is a taste for fish and meat and a lowered taste for sweets.
