Taxonomy
Steganthera is frequently confused with Kibara, because the foliage, fruits and inflorescences are similar.
Kibara has the greater number of tepals, which are thickened and glandular in the female receptacle, and the greater number of stamens in the androecium. Kibara the pedicel is thickened distally and has a less clearly defined junction with the receptacle or none at all. In Kibara the leaves usually dry greenish, yellowish green.
Steganthera has a pedicel which is relatively slender and is clearly distinct from the receptacle.
In Steganthera the leaves are mostly brown when dry.
