Habitat: very cold-hardy plant, tolerating temperatures to -8°c; prefers moist, well-drained, fairly fertile soil; prefers a sunny position; well in quite dry positions, in poor soils and in light shade; very drought tolerant.
Ecology: often specially targeted by slugs; immune to the predations of rabbits.
