They have a relationship that is not fulfilling. They don’t feel much love coming to them, although they themselves give too much. Their partner is often demanding, irritable, self-centred or egotistical. This leads to the feeling that they don’t want to go on with the relationship or marriage.
But at the other side they keep on staying because they feel responsible for the other, or because they still hope that it will turn out better. They feel that they cannot leave, it’s too painful. It reminds of the thorns of the blackberry that are pointing inside: one can go quite easily into the bush, but retiring makes scratches everywhere.
