We also see the mental weakness of the Ericaceae (Apathy, Dullness, Indiffernce, Mistakes, Stupefaction etc). Perhaps the following rubric explains what causes this mental problem in Rhododendron:
MIND; MOROSE, sulky, cross, fretful, ill-humor, peevish; causeless.
They become sulky and say that it is causeless. Perhaps they are not in touch with their emotions because these are to confronting.
Rheumatic pains, gout and sciatica are the main complaints of the rhododendronpicture. Especially ailments from muscles, joints, tendons, periosteum and cartilages.
There are strong modalities
-amelioration from rising, motion, walking, exertion (even headache ameliorates on exertion).
-sitting, lying and resting aggravates the complaints
-aggravation from thunderstorm (or amelioration !), from wet and damp weather
-aggravation from cold (weather, air, food, drinks, amelioration from warmth (food). In spite of this they may have hot fingers in cold weather and perpiring fingertips.
-inspiration aggravates many symptoms (pains in chest, abdomen, genitals)
Peculiar is the quivering (brain, eyes, glans penis), jerking (ears, in the bones (!) or periosteum )etc in many organs.
There are some eyesymptoms (glaucoma, pains, inequal pupils and quivering)
Pains increase gradualy or suddenly and decrease sudden. Paroxysmal pains.
Like the other remedies in the family there are many extensions of pains (throat to ear, mastoid, shoulder. Rectum to genitals, etc. etc.)
Rhododendron has symptoms of the bladder and kidneys like the other familymembers. There are inflammations with sediment in the urine, there are no calculi, but sand may be present in the urine.
The remedy has distinct genital symptoms. Retarded development of the female genitals, late puberty, congenital hydrocele, chordee of the penis. Inflammations and induration of the testes and epididymis with the well known modalities. Pains extend to anus or thighs (Rhod. and Chim. have related symptoms).
In the female there is abortion and pains in the ovaries from thunderstorm (), pains in the uterus alternating with pain in the limbs. It has also tumors in the vagina.
Nodosities, ganglions, bursae and corns in the extremities
The position during sleep has to be with the legs crossed. The fingers may be flexed spasmodically. Stretching of the limbs may aggravate the pains
