Ranunculaceae

1. INTRODUCTION
Pulsatilla is one of the first tools that the novice homeopath learns during his or her training. Pulsatilla is a plant from the Ranunculaceae family. A plant family that provides many homeopathic remedies.
What is the essence of this plant family? In this syllabus this is elaborated in more detail.
Sankaran uses the term RAW SENSATIONS in this context. We could say that for the ranunculus, reality feels raw and hard. They feel hurt, alone, lost and seek support from a partner or other people.
Each plant has its own atmosphere and physical symptoms. With Aconitum as a means for sudden fright one could say: "it falls raw on my roof".
With Staphisagria as a remedy for injury and suppressed anger you could say: "it falls raw on my liver". Ranunculus bulbosus gets complaints if he or she is treated without respect: "it falls on my body raw".
2. Botany
2. a. The plant family
The Ranunculaceae are a large family with 30 to 70 genera and 800 to 2500 species depending on the systematic classification (which is variable per
author).
The family is spread all over the world, but the area is in the temperate zone of the northern and southern hemispheres.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and regular. Characteristic is the spiral placement of the flower parts on a more or less elongated flower base, while the petals often stand in wreaths. The number of sepals is often five. Rarely are the plants permanent (such as
Helleborus), they are often petal-shaped, but a real calyx and crown are not common.
Many Ranunkel-like species can be found in the vicinity of water, varying from rivers to swamps (Ranunculus is the Latin diminutive for frog). Others can be found in beech forests (beech also needs a lot of moisture).
