Protium copal
English: Copal tree.
Region: Mexico, Central America.
Habitat: wet tropical forests, heavy shade.
Use: dried sap is known as copal and commonly used as an incense, similar to frankincense.

Botany
Tree to 30 metres high.
Stem: often buttressed.
Leaves: dioecious; long leathery leaves; pulvinulus usually present on terminal and often on lateral petiolules.
Fruits: drupe dehiscent, pseudoaril spongy; small; ± 2 cm; smooth, with a single pit.
