Pellacalyx axillaris

Region: east Asia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines.
Habitat: sub-canopy tree, in pine forest, evergreen forest, open degraded forests; elevations from 200 - 500 metres; alluvial sites, along rivers and streams; sandy to clay soils.
Use: wood for light construction work, fuel.

Botany
Deciduous tree, stifly horizontal branches; 27 metres tall.
Stem: straight, rather slender; 60cm in diameter, sometimes with small buttresses up to 100cm high. When growing in swampy ground it develops loop-like breathing roots like some mangrove trees; heartwood is red; the sapwood is yellow; wood is hard, heavy and durable if kept dry.
