Myrica cerifera

Female, 48 years old, Hyperthyroidism.
She’s primary school teacher. Married, 4 children.
Patient: “ I worked full time as a teacher with 4 children, the youngest was 4 ½ years old, therefore I asked for part time until the youngest reached the age of 6.
Some days before Easter I noticed that I was making many mistakes and my memory was failing, as well. In addition, I was very hungry all the time and despite of this I started to loose weight. Some months later, I started having hot flushes, and the sweating was horrible.
At that time, I wasn't given the post I had applied for in order to work in the same area as my husband, so I had to re-incorporate to my old post and this lead to the separation of my family. I had to move here with the children while my husband stayed there. (Both cities are over 250km away from each other).
When I went back to work, I found that everything was so different! It was vary hard for me, suddenly my children lost everything, the house, their father…
It has been as a mourning I have to live with.
I worked fill time and was alone with the children.
My hands were trembling.
I was 4 months on sick leave. I was diagnosed of hypothyroidism and started treatment with Tirodril®. One week later I started to improve.
Coming back to Igualada has also been very tough because the family ….. my family (parents and siblings) we are even more separated.”
Question: “More separated, what do you mean?”
P: “While I was pregnant with my oldest daughter I lost a brother of mine in an accident. This took me apart from my family. The comment that affected me most was when my mother at the funeral said “Now we have only the oldest and the youngest left!” And I? what about me?. I always had to gain my place at my parents home.
At the time my daughter was born, my mother was still working, and my father, very authoritarian, said that he didn't want to know anything about grandchildren. We had to hire a nanny.
This attitude is only towards my children, who don't go for lunch to their grandparents house as their cousins do.
If this wasn't all, one day my parents said I was selfish because I never bring my children to them.”
Q: What is it about the thyroid that worries you most?
P: “The endocrinologist scared me by saying that I have been taking Tirodril® for too long and I had to receive radioactive iodine. I stopped seeing him.
Now, my levels are up again, so I saw a new specialist who insists in the same radioactive treatment, which I refuse, so the only thing they can do is increase the dose of Tirodril®.
Blood results from a couple of days before I saw the patient are as follows: TSH < 0.003 mUI/L (NV: 0,55, 4,80); free- T4: 21.96 ng/dL (NV: 9 - 19.05); free-T3: 7.2 ng/dL (NV: 2.6 - 5.7); Ab. anti-tiroglobuline (TG): 91.63 (NV: 1000.00 (NV: < 5.60).
Q: Something else?
P: “Well, I always have a tense muscles in my back, I’m seeing an osteopath. When I started with the hyperthyroidism I laso suffered from joint pain, in feet, knees and hips.
In addition, I don’t sleep, it awful.”
Q: Tell me more.
P: “I fall asleep very easily, but at around 4am I wake up and can’t catch deep sleep anymore. I don't feel refreshed in the morning… but I go to work anyway.”
Q: Something else?
P: “What destabilises me is that there is no peace, there are two sides and having to choose between them. This is currently happening among the teachers of the school to choose from a new director. I decided not to talk to anyone about topics that may have consequences. I feel used as a tool.”
Analysis
She has a “normal” life. Worried about gaining enough money and about assure the family’s economy. She works hard and is responsable. This indicates the Ferrum serie (4). In addition, she does voluntary work for a better world, which indicates Lanthonide Serie: 644 or Fabidae.
Phase: She supports her family and nobody questions her authority. The same at her work. She suffers from back pain and muscles contractions.
State 16: She cannot stand to be ignored and gives up, but it hurts the people have taken advantage of her all her life and fells angry about that.
Evolution
Improvements were seen since the first doses of Myrica cerifera 200 K. The following bloods showed a normalised third function, she accepted to reduce the Tirodril® until stopping it definitely.
Normal levels persisted in time and she was discharged.
