Metzgeria furcata
Case by Cristina Ari
The desire for more energy and security
A 42-year-old woman who is deaf from birth feels constantly overwhelmed in life and misunderstood by everyone.
As the mother of a nine-year-old daughter, she feels extremely stressed by household chores. She longs for help and approval. She is supported as much as possible by her mother-in-law and her ex-partner, but they accuse her of lacking skills in bringing up children. She is moody, everything annoys her, gets on her nerves or robs her of sleep. In extreme cases, she screams loudly, but nobody hears her. She doesn't feel like a fully fledged person, is not taken seriously by her environment, in fact she seems very naive and clumsy. Since the beginning of summer 2018, she has also lost noticeably weight and the dizziness attacks are increasingly unsettling her. She has a slight tremor, is tired and exhausted, everything is just too much for her.
Born an only child, she grew up with your grandmother in the country because the parents felt overwhelmed by custody. In the second grade she was diagnosed with hearing loss, whereupon her mother moved her to the big city to attend a school for the hearing impaired. She was always shy and reserved because of her disability and was ashamed of it, and she was teased a lot. She was uprooted in the city, couldn't make real friends, was afraid of being alone and regretted the lack of parental resources. Since her youth she suffered from acne, dysmenorrhea and a tendency to collapse, furthermore a pronounced exophthalmos developed. Paroxysmal vertigo has existed for many years. Despite her average intelligence, she was unable to complete school or vocational training and, even as an adult, she attended further training courses to compensate for her profound insecurity. She could never really gain a foothold professionally, and was always dependent on state welfare. She had a partnership with her daughter's father for seven years before breaking up with him because of a gambling addiction.
Analysis
I had already treated this patient for more than a year. Sepia, Folliculinum, Alumina, Aluminum oxidatum and Barium muriaticum brought only modest success. Driven by the successful treatment of the Aulacomnium child, I immediately thought of the mosses again while taking this anamnesis, especially with regard to the fact that they are uprooted in early childhood. Again I let the patient make her own choice of medication by pulling a vial out of the container. The choice fell on Metzgeria furcata. The middle picture description also applied here to a degree that made the prescription easy for me. A locked-in syndrome is described: Others do not understand, they believe that one is mentally disabled and one would not understand anything, like a disabled person who understands everything but cannot express himself and is not understood by anyone. There is no solution, just frustration! I prescribe Metzgeria furcata 30C one dose a week.
Follow up
The psychological state improves noticeably over the course of three months. The consumption of psychotropic drugs could be reduced significantly. The dizziness became noticeably less and the menstrual cramps were also reduced, but the acne came back. The body weight remained stable and she was now much more coordinated. Despite the fact that she received a negative pension notification and that financial support for her stay in a rehabilitation center was cancelled, she was full of fighting spirit and wanted to bring a lawsuit on her own. In addition, she was granted mobile care as support in everyday life. She is much happier now than before.
Classification according to Scholten: Metzgeria furcata 322.13.14 This woman is exhausted in maintaining her basic human needs. She seems immature, like a small child who is not yet completely at peace, still completely caught up in the carbon series. Phase 1 refers to being alone, abandoned by parents and friends, naive and helpless. The dizziness, the tendency to collapse and being teased show a sub-phase 3 and the hopelessness of the situation is reflected in stage 14, because even if she screams, nobody will hear her.
