Botany
Growth form: thalloid
Liverwort; dioicious, having separate male and female plants.
Rhizoids: on the underside of the thalli.
Thalli: rosette of flattened thalli with forked branches; thalli of 10 by 2 cm, usually green, older ones brown or purplish, upper surface has hexagonal markings;thick and leathery, up to 15 mm broad, with a median black line, which is irregularly developed and sometimes interrupted.
Reproduction: umbrella-like reproductive structures; female gametophores like astalk with star-like rays at the top; male gametophores are topped by a flattened disc containing the antheridia which produce sperm; reproduces asexually by gemmae; has a cone-shaped beaker.
