Region: south America, Uruguay, south and eastern Brazil.
Habitat: coastal rainforest, semideciduous forests, Araucaria forest and woodland areas in the savannah; open areas, secondary growth; wide range of soil types; succeeds in a sunny position and in dappled shade.
Use: highly valued wood for outdoor use, fence posts, poles, fuel, high quality charcoal.

Botany
Evergreen tree; dense, roundish crown; 4; wood is fine-textured, straight-grained, heavy, hard, with excellent mechanical properties, very durable even when exposed.
