Lithium iodatum

2.1.6 Lithium iodatum, Case 1

A 40 year old man suffers from restlessness. He works for an international contact agency, writing courses. He frequently travels to South America to give courses. He loves that country. He also likes Holland very much, and he lives here with his wife and four children. But part of him feels much more at home in South America, as he feels a deeper contact with the people over there. So he keeps wondering whether he should emigrate or not.
He feels as if he is floating sometimes, as if he isn’t grounded. And he can’t sit still.
He dreams of an enormous octopus sitting in the attic, waiting to catch him with its huge tentacles. He tries to run downstairs to escape, but he can’t.
He has trouble with his knees: they feel wobbly and he is afraid they’ll give way.

Generals
Weather: sun (3); > outside, > sea.
Perspiration: < excitement.
Time: < evening, < 11 pm.
Desires: soup (3), fruit (3), fish (2), salt.
Aversion: mussels, fat, milk, alcohol.
Food: coffee, smoking, alcohol.

Analysis
The main problem is that he doesn’t know whether to emigrate or not. He keeps changing his mind (Lithium), can’t decide about this emigration (Iodum).
Another Lithium symptom is the fact that he feels so ungrounded.
The dream tells us about the octopus, an animal from the sea (Iodum), whose tentacles he can’t escape (Lithium, weak).
Other Iodum indications: restlessness, teaching, international contacts, > outside, > sea, -> fish, salt, <- mussels.

Reaction
After Lithium iodatum he feels quieter, he doesn’t get so worked up about everything. He doesn’t take it out on his wife anymore when he is under pressure. He still loves South America but the dilemma about emigration has gone.
