Case 1: women, 17 year
A 17 year old woman comes for a consultation with her mother in October 2002 with complaints after an acute Borrelia infection. “I am not myself anymore.” In June 2002 she was hospitalised with high fever, pain and tingling in her entire body. According to her mother, they couldn’t make contact with her. She stared with large eyes and had hallucinations. The neurologist considered meningitis, but it turned out to be an acute Borrelia infection. She was given intravenous antibiotics.
5 Months after being hospitalised, she still has numerous complaints, i.e. fatigue, loss of power in her legs and loss of sensation in lower legs and feet. She has muscular cramps in her legs, starting at the top and descending, and shooting pains in the elbows and knees. Her sense of smell is either exaggerated or absent. For example, she doesn’t smell the manure when the farmer is fertilising (she lives in a rural area). She has strong mood swings, from cheerful to depressed. According to her mother, she always used to be very cheerful and energetic. She is also more chilly and has freezing hands and feet.
Initially she had a very poor appetite and lost 4 kilograms, but she has gained weight again.
Great difficulty concentrating at school.
Development
Her mother had pre-eclampsia during the pregnancy.
The first three months of her life, she cried frequently due to colic.

Food and drink
Desires: fruit, carrots, nuts, fried potatoes, cheese.
Averse: oysters, eggs.
Not thirsty.
Defecation: normal.
Sleep
Needs a lot of sleep. Falls asleep well. Frequently awakened by scary dreams about ghosts. Very frightened of ghosts.
Fears
Fear of ghosts and aliens. Doesn’t dare watch scary films.
Fear of trains and that someone might push her in front of one.
Character
Studying for graphic design. She is very creative.
She is a perfectionist and wants to do well in school.
Until the Borrelia infection, she was enterprising, loved diving and walking in the mountains. “I would love to parachute jump.” Loves speed.
Sometimes rebellious; she can lash out at her parents or boyfriend. Afterwards she makes up again.
Analysis
Remarkable in this case is the strong fear of ghosts.
First prescription: Mancinella 200K.
Mancinella also has hallucinations of smelling manure, but she actually could not smell the manure.
No improvement 6 weeks after Mancinella.
Next choice was for a remedy from the family of the Ericaceae, because of the Lyme’s disease.
Prescription: Kalmia 200K. A keynote for Kalmia is the descending pain. She had descending muscular cramps in her legs.
Follow up
Six weeks after the first dose Kalmia 200K, she has more energy. Twice she developed a rash on her right cheek, warm and red. She had more motivation to undertake things. Decreased sensation and muscular cramps in the legs were much less. Sense of smell better. School is going well, but the pace is too slow for her!
Second dose of Kalmia 200K.
Eight weeks after the second dose: energy levels excellent. Almost all the remaining symptoms after the Borrelia infection are gone.
Up until the present (14 months after the first dose Kalmia), she is doing well.
