Case by Alex Leupen.
Man, 46, migraine.
He has migraine attacks on the weekends for the past ten years. The migraines are accompanied by nausea, vomiting and sometimes diarrhoea. He wakes up feeling heavy-headed; the headache is worse from company, alcohol and light, he has to lie in the dark. He has pain in his neck and above his left eye. He does not pick up on things when he has a headache and he says that he can hardly walk then. Sometimes he sleeps for 12 hours in a row. The headache sometimes ameliorates with coffee, but sometimes it is worse from it.
He works as a coordinator for care of the elderly, which involves a lot of discussion. He likes to have contact and to have varied tasks. He likes to have a certain amount of tension and challenge, developing new things. He has the leadership of eight professional workers and he finds it important that they enjoy their work and that they are functioning well. He has a lot of things to organise, for instance fighting for budgeting.
Work: welfare coordinator elderly.
He looks quiet and relaxed, but feels restless and nervous. He is more nervous when people expect things from him, but the tension also helps him to achieve a lot. He is not impulsive, he thinks before he acts. He is reserved and does not talk much about his emotions.
He also has eczema on his fingers worse from ammonia and detergent. He sometimes has a swollen gland in his right cervical region. As a child he had mononucleosis for a few months. He has had constipation.
He likes contacts, company, aversion and tension from presentations, lectures, and examinations.
Dream: going to an examination and being too late.
Dream: problems in his work that he has to solve.
Weather: chilly < tensions; <- is bright sun.
Sweat: < exertion.
Desire: chocolate, peanut butter, yoghurt, milk products, sweet.
Aversion: fat, sausage, French fries, mayonnaise.
Food: < chocolate, < alcohol, >< coffee.
Analysis
The dreams of exams, in combination with migraine, point to Gelsemium.
Stage 6 has to do with “proving oneself”.
Follow up
After a few doses of Gelsemium 200K this man has far fewer migraine attacks. I saw him some years ago regarding other complaints, it was going well with his migraines.
