Case 5.11: a man with hay fever
By Jan Scholten
A 25-year-old man comes in for symptoms of hay fever. He has an allergy to grass (4), cat (3), house dust (3), house dust mite (3), dog (2), feathers 92), wool (2) and smog. He suffers from morning sneezing, his eyes are very red, painful stinging and tears a lot. The veins in his eyes are red. The tear fluid is corrosive and makes the skin around his eyes red and broken. The tears are worse with yawning. He is oppressive, has to squeak and cough a lot. He has forehead pain. Everything is worse in grasslands, May and June, in good weather and wind, air conditioning, in the open air. It is better indoors, at night and when swimming.
It exists about 4-5 years since he and his parents moved to a new housing estate. His parents both have rheumatism, his mother since the age of 14. His father has it very bad, but is hard on himself, regrets his pain, organizes everything in the weekend to forget his pain.
He works as a lithographer, likes the work.
He has a girlfriend and plans to get married next year.
He is a quiet type, first take a quiet look at the case..
It's hard for him to express himself, but he can't get away with it all.
He is very precise, a "pietje exactly".
He loves music, classical and pop, reading, watching television, cycling, fishing and collecting stamps.
He is rather afraid of heights.
He has been afraid of wasps since he was once stabbed in his ear.
Background: He has always suffered from colds, especially from draughts. The flu always turned into throat infections with inflamed tonsils and white dots on them, swollen neck glands and thickening of the sternocleidomastoid muscles.
At the age of 7, a benign tumour on his left forearm was removed.
Generals: -> warm, < draught, wind, -> fresh air, > sea, < smoke.
Sweating with heat and effort.
Time: > morning, < after 11 pm.
Preference; sweet, spicy, sour.
Aversion: eating frozen, endive.
Sleep: on the right side. No dreams.

Laughter/tears(sen)yawning
Laughrymation/tears(sen)acrid
With this patient, the theme did not become clear to me. Only later did the theme of caring for old and sick parents clearly fit in. But he didn't tell me that. We also see the closedness and the relationship with work.
Reaction
After a month he comes back and all his complaints are gone. After just one day it was all over, even when cycling near grass. In general he also feels fine. Wait and see.
After a year he comes back. The hay fever has returned for about 30%. It is especially bad when he is with his parents. In the meantime he is married. After a new dose of Euphrasia MK it will be better soon.
