Elaeagnus rhamnoides
Remedy code: 3-644. 62.06.
Sea buckthorn.
A 68-year-old woman, she appears vital and younger. Stable as a person and in her posture, she is firmly seated, upright, with some congestion in her face. She is uncomplicated, answers questions with slight surprise but doesn't look for anything further. She's preoccupied with her matters.
"I suffer from intestinal complaints. I'm also diabetic, last year I had severe diarrhea when they increased the medication glycoside. Along with that came terrible cramps till now, in the right side of the abdomen and belly. A CT scan showed gallstones, and I had a few protrusions, and diverticula. I was given fiber packets, but I still have varying bowel movements, after bowel movement, I have a bit of slimy mush. Blood tests are good, no parasites. The pain is mostly cramping, rubbing helps. My medications are glycoside and metformin. Now after waking up, I go to the bathroom, and it lessens after bowel movement. The pain is on the right side of the abdomen, the side, the flank to the lower back, and from the back, it pulls upward. I'm restless because it doesn't go away. There's a lot of pressure behind it, bowel movements are 'whop'. The stool is either watery or fibrous balls. It feels like the muscles are tightening, and then loosening again. Sitting also feels like there's pressure outward as if I'm sitting on something.
I've had intestinal problems since I was 20, with somewhat similar complaints, but it always went away after a few weeks, then I would have normal bowel movements again. Diabetes: This was diagnosed 10 years ago from tiredness at the end of the day. I don't like meat anymore for the past six months. The tongue is clean. Ten years ago, I had a similar incident (she means adverse reaction to medication), oxazepam was increased, and that led to psychosis. I was given oxazepam after my mother died, everything came up then. Otherwise, I have nothing. About my mother, what came up: I have a brother, who was always everything to my parents, and I was nothing. It was told by my mother, 'I would have preferred a boy,' no matter how hard I tried to please. Father had little say. He passed away earlier, and his mother always portrayed him very poorly. I still feel sad that I never got to tell him that. I didn't see it then, in my eyes, he was a grumpy man. He died when my daughter was born. I lost contact with my brother, he's addicted to gambling, I also lent him money, and he disappeared. That closed the door. Appendectomy at 11 years old. At 20, I was already living on my own, working as a group leader. I left home at 16 and started working at 20. I was doing well then.
Meanwhile, I had a bladder infection a few weeks ago. It has been recurring more often in the last three years.
Analysis The complaints mainly involve digestion, in the abdominal area. This already suggests looking within the Fabidae, Iron series. Adverse reactions to medication fit Gold series, but this is overshadowed in the story, even drowned out by the past home situation, rejection by the mother, and also the father 'who had little say'. The later psychosis can also be traced back to this, a starting point could be the Phase and sub-Phase referring to the theme of the parents. The fact that this woman always just continued with her life, as a solution or perhaps as the only option, is again known by the Fabales and fitting within the Fabidae as a class. Her flight, her solution, and also her life was 'work,' fitting with the iron series and Iron series. The combination of bladder and pancreas (often also with sinus frontalis) is known as the Rosaceae. Although much points to Fabaceae, here the 'enjoyment', the joyfulness, and the 'drive' that we know from the Fabaceae family are missing. The intestines and the rejection in her youth are strong arguments for Phase 6. Therefore, we search in 6 44 60.
The position of her father is seen in later life as a good man who accepted her, an argument for Phase 4. Towards her brother, she felt a responsibility, also fitting with Phase 4. The previous placement was within the Rhamnaceae, Subphase 6, which could again fit with the absent father, not present for her. We look within this family, the Ulmaceae, are there suitable remedies in this series?
Within the Rosales, in this case, there was a recognition of previous prescriptions of this medicine. Recognizing Elaeagnus from previous case studies: this fits with the intestines, diabetes, being level-headed, taking action, persevering as a solution, tiredness, (extreme) pain throughout the abdomen, feeling humiliated, lack of appreciation, hard work, some form of abuse. With this woman, you also see her wanting to prove herself, trying her best to please is an aspect of stage 6.
Altogether, this leads us to 3-644.64.06
Prescription: Sea buckthorn, Elaeagnus MK
Follow-up After three weeks: at first, things were going very well, for three days all the pain was gone, the
cramping in the intestines. The improvement then tapered off, and now after two weeks, it's improving again. During all this time, the bowel movements have been better, no more explosive, no more watery, now it's fibrous but still pencil-thin. There where no reactions to the medication, it didn't have a good effect on sugar, it's even higher now: up from 6-8 to 10 fasting. The rest of the day it's stable. Two weeks ago, the dosage of metformin was reduced. So overall, there's progress.
The current pain is less severe, no longer throughout the entire abdomen to the back (it was a belt around, from the stomach to the spine) but only in the flank and back. In the morning after waking up, there's still pain. Energy is good. I've been on vacation and had Mediterranean food with lots of oil, but this time it didn't cause any problems. The back: the pain occasionally radiates, especially in the evening when sitting. The pain doesn't completely disappear during the day. The bladder is fine now. She's experiencing discomfort with marigold tea, this seems like an allergy. During the day, what I do is a bit of babysitting the grandchildren, crafting, and gardening, we have a large garden.
After 9 weeks she is still going well, now a slight pain on the right flank is back, in the morning, it feels like I've slept in the wrong position, in the wrong bed. The flank cramps a bit when getting up, it's gone around half-past nine. It pulls down a bit, towards the groin. Like it's the muscles. Intestines and bowel movements remain good. The bladder no longer hurts, but sometimes it feels like there's less strength, it's quite noticeable, I've never had that before, I just stay seated for a while. Sugar is still too high, since the reduction in metformin, but I don't notice anything and feel good.
These weeks I've been having difficulty falling asleep, never had that, it must be getting older. No idea why, I'm awake until sometimes 3 o'clock. Always had trouble getting up, I'm an evening person. No dreams. The rash on my face is still there, without creame, it's red and blotchy, and the skin there has always been sensitive, especially the cheeks.
Repeat Elaeagnus, now he pain in the flank remained unchanged for a week. Intestines, bladder, and sleep are good. After two weeks, the pain disappeared, but now it's in the back, a small area above the coccyx: it bothers me. When I sit still it's fine, but when I get up and bend forward, it feels like it's shooting in. Also when turning over in bed. A twinge, upon asking could radiate to the thighs. Worse: the bloodsugar is up, now fasting 12, then it drops. No increase in metformin. Lots of cramps in the calves.
I also had a cold, with a runny nose and coughing, it surely doesn't have anything to do with it. Coughing also makes my back hurt. I'm adamant about not using insulin.
Prescription: Tellurium metallicum C200 (Phase 6 has an analogy or overlap with series 16, Tellurium is known for this type of radiating back pain). The pain diminishes, sugar levels decrease and remain stable, intestines stay good and even show some constipation.
The remaining complaints are not burdensome and not serious for health. Subcutaneous tissue and muscles are biologically part of the connective tissue, which, like digestion, is an aspect of the Fabidae. Ulmus species have a strong 'father theme', this can problaby be extrapolated to the entire family of the Ulmaceae including Elaeagnus.
The need for Tellurium as a complementary remedy, or seeming necessity, may be related to the emphasis on stage 16, the lack of appreciation, and her theme from youth.
