12.2 Dysprosium metallicum case
Width 8, Depth 4, Cure 8, Duration 8

A man of 50 years of age comes for his alcohol habit. The drinking has got worse over the years. He used to drink spirits but then limited himself to wine in order not to drink too much alcohol. Alcohol relaxes him when he drinks after work at home alone. The tension and restlessness makes him sleepless, which is better from alcohol. The tension is due to the pressure and tension of work. His wife calls it alcoholism whereas he thinks he’s just a habitual drinker.
Together with his brother he has a construction company with 50 employees. He wants to do everything very well. Things that he undertakes have to succeed. He has a fear of losing control, of failure, of falling, of losing face. It makes him very fastidious and orderly. It’s important for him to have an over-view. His wife says he is a busy little boss. When he’s been on holidays he wants to get back to work again as quickly as possible. Work is a flight from himself. He stores up all the events of the day and at night checks to see what he could have done better. Then he gets the feeling it’s all too much. Tensions give him a desire for alcohol. The way he runs his companies also has to do with his childhood. As a child he was timid and used to wet the bed. He felt lost in primary school. Once a senior boy humiliated him for his bed wetting in front of the whole school. He couldn't say anything, couldn't walk away, and just wanted it to be all over. Things like this made him very sensitive to people who expose the weak spots of others in public for their own advantage. He hates those people. But he also developed the desire to show that he’s very capable. He wanted to show that he can do great deeds. Generally he set up his company quite easily. He feels socially responsible. He makes his companies fulfill the highest environmental standards. He is on the board of a regional professional society. Without any presumptuousness he wants to change the whole world.
He is from a large family with many brothers and sisters. They still ring him for advice with their problems. He hates aggression. Once he saw a terrible fight of three people against one; it made a big impression on him.
He has a strong sexual desire.
He doesn't have many friends.
He doesn't like to talk about himself.
He’s strong as iron.
Dream: nightmares of fights, beating others and chasing them away; frightening.
Fears: crowds.

He has low blood pressure and numbness in fingers and feet. He has back pains in the lumbar region, worse from sitting and rising from sitting. It comes on once or twice a year when he’s too busy at work.
Weather: -> sun, -> storm, < draught, -> outside, sleeps with open window.
Perspiration: << exertion.
Time: < 3 pm
Desire: alcohol (3), spirits, wine, meat, potatoes.
Aversion: beer, porridge, dry food.
Sleep: sleepless from restlessness, >> alcohol.

Analysis
He’s a manager with a strong social responsibility. This indicates the Gold series. This is especially because his work is the cause of the tension and desire for alcohol.
The fighting is typical of Stage 12. But the fights are personal, not as a leader. This kind of fighting is typical of Dysprosium, Stage 12 of the Lanthanides.

Confirmations
Lanthanides: sensitive to people, strong sexual desire.
Gold series: advising family, -> sun, -> outside, -> meat.
Stage 12: constructing things easily indicates it’s after Stage 9; the development upwards is without problems.

The above analysis is an analysis in hindsight. Beside the Gold series theme, the rest was more intuitive. At the time of this prescription I had not got much information about Lanthanides and Dysprosium.

Follow up
After Dysprosium metallicum MK he felt very tired for 3 days. Then he started feeling well, less tired, more accessible and more open. He was more in control of alcohol. He’s drinking less and starts later in the day. The urge is less, he can say “enough” now. He can take a little distance from his work and it still goes well. He had to prove himself, but now he can stand losing a contract.
He had several repetitions of the remedy over the course of a year. Every time he had as reaction, dreams of fighting with kicking and beating with his bare hands. But with every repetition the dream was less vivid. After a year his alcohol intake is much diminished. He’s more open, not so closed. He delegates more. His wife says he is more accessible.
5 years later he’s still doing very well.
