C1
The setting is a place beyond a big old tree- as the proving commences the women sit down around a dark wooden old table. Prover 4 and Prover 1 being very polite cleaning the floor of fallen leaves, organizing pillows and drinks for the women.
When everybody is seated there immediately emerges a very unpleasant feeling of something bad dawning on the group. It quickly becomes clear that they are all related and now find themselves in the family residence awaiting punishment from the head of the family.
Physical symptoms are chills- hot and cold- dry mouth.
As the conversation develops it residues that they are all part of a very noble and elite family living in the late 19th century British Commonwealth. Their positions within the family are very different- as Prover 4 stands out to be the heir and most respected by the dawning head of the family. The rest of the group feels threatened by him and powerless. They suspect him of having murdered another member of the family, as there is a place empty next to Prover 2 and fear that he could do it again without blinking and not facing any consequences.
Prover 4 worked in the slave trade as it has been the family’s business for generations and appears as cold hearted, blunt and empty.
The group feels that he is indifferent about this as he does not comment much and keeps on smiling. Prover 1 being his little brother is very disappointed in him because he left without saying a word and kept letting him down over and over again.
Prover 5 does not take part in this a lot- she feels apathy towards all of us and sides with Prover 4 as she feels so sorry for him what he had to go through.
During the course of events Prover 2 feels more and more sick- she has the physical feeling of being poisoned, nauseous and dizzy. She turns pale very quickly and again accuses Prover 4 of trying to kill all of us.

C2
Prover 2 was locked away in the cellar of the house the group finds itself in- she is disabled and therefore it was easy to make her the scapegoat for something all of the family members witnessed- the death of their younger brother.
Prover 4 felt responsible for his death his lifelong because he was the oldest and should have been able to rescue him. That is why he fled into the Caribbean trading slaves and gold, never wanting to come back.
He could not admit to this failure being a member of such an elite family-.
Everything is kept inside, nothing dare to ruin the integrity of the family.
All these problems are hidden and well covered up as it merely surfaces that they all were present the day their brother died- but nobody did anything to rescue him. They played altogether by the river and suddenly the little boy slipped and fell into the water- Prover 2 was playing with a flower and in her absent mind didn’t even realize what was happening, Prover 4 was too late to catch him out of the water, the middle aged brother was imitating Prover 4s action and so also kept from engaging. Prover 3 was in the house, witnessing the whole scene.
In the process everybody kept it a secret as described the weakest link was made the scapegoat, and all the others tried to save themselves and the family as whole. During this part of the proofing the table we were sat at became unstable, it started rocking and it occurred to us that beneath this very refined and elegant surface of the dark wood the table was made from it was unstable, but neither of us could see what was going on beneath.
As we progressed the topic circled around the survival of the fittest- especially this high up on the social ladder only the toughest and resilient will survive even if it means to hide and belie the death of a brother.
By doing so every single one of us dug their own cellar within themselves, though as Prover 2 was physically locked away. The consequence of slandering something terrible for the sake of integrity and reputation is rotting away and eventually “die” in your own personal cellar within your mind.
This left us very confused and unstable.

C3
Starting with C3 we realised the root of the problem was guilt. We all felt guilty and responsible for the death and that it was everybody’s individual fault- when it occurred that nobody could have done something about it.
We were all children and the situation just was out of anybody’s control.
He fell into the river and that was just what happened- like a leaf falling of a tree. Nothing a few children can do something about.
We still feel confused and powerless but the guilt fades eventually, everybody tries to understand and help the others as finally it is no longer a secret and we talk about it.
The proofing felt endless and was very exhausting for everybody, we felt like we had to end it at some point.
In the end Prover 2 tells us about her dream she had the night before: A little boy with blonde hair with a sad face and five people standing around him.

Discussion
Prover 3 telling: She saw the story from the end at the beginning: children crossing street. Protecting family, then turned the plant over; different story: Xmas will be over soon; we could not get going; Prover 4 cleaned place; all clean and proper; big old English house; waiting for the grand aunt; everything had to be perfect; all gentle; dry hands, nervous, itching; someone had been murdered, Prover 4 has done it; I am the bad guy, he admitted; being schizophrenic, whole scene turned into a Hitchcock movie; Prover 3 hit a glass, she feared being killed by him; all others powerless; confusion; he wanted Anna’s gold chain; they started hating each other. Prover 2, mentally disabled, had lived in a cellar; trying to kill old lady, but killing herself with cyanide on her hands.
then strange dynamic: Prover 4 left; Prover 1 angry being left; tragedy … at first they had loved each other, then hated each other; Prover 4 said, I am here for the gold, as the boss, not as the digger; slave trader; morphine… big instability; under the table, unseen.
Then: they were children, their mother has died. As children, they were playing by the river; a 2 year old boy drowned, Prover 4 could not save him; Prover 2 was made the scapegoat because she was mentally handicapped, that’s why she had to spend the rest of her life in the cellar; in order to maintain family reputation.
Prover 5 cried, being sorry for Prover 4; guilt came up in everyone and so came anger; Anna had not known about this family secret; Prover 2 was held in the cellar, and everyone was in the cellar of his mind; Prover 4 could not tell the truth, that it was his fault, not Prover 2’s.
“Follow the selfish person, then you survive.” Prover 1 stood in the library, first floor, had watched the whole scene.
