Use: the root a medicinal narcotic, by the Mendocino Native Americans.
Content: diterpenoid alkaloids: hetisine, 2-dehydrohetisine, 6-deoxydelcorine, dictyocarpine, dihydrogadesine, methyllycaconitine, lycoctonine, takaosamine, nudicaulamine, nudicauline, and nudicaulidine.

Botany: flowering perennial herb; stem thin, long, 50 cm; leaves finely dissected; flowers attractive, larkspur, red and orange; pollinated by hummingbirds.
