Crassulaceae

Sedum in general
This diverse group includes some of our most durable garden plants, although certainly not the most showy. Most sedums are known for their fleshy succulent foliage and yellow to pink or white flowers. As a group, they prefer well drained, moist soils, although many are highly drought tolerant. In nature, most sedums occur in light shade or partly sunny sites, while a few are also well adapted to full sun situations. Sedum is the latin word for houseleak. Some Sedum plants have alkaloids (sedamine, sedacrine, sedinine). Some alkaloids are anthelmic (the same as in Punica granatum). Sedum telephium is proven to posses polysaccharides that are antiseptic by stimulating the fagocytosis and having an anticomplement effect. This explains their use since ages in inflamed wounds.
