Region: Southwestern United States, northern Baja California.
Habitat: areas of high salt concentrations, coastal salt marshes, inland salt flats of the Great Basin; halophyte.
Botany: hemiparasitic herb, grows in low clumps
Leaves: small, thick, hairy, gray-green often tinted with purple, with a grainy crust from salt.
Inflorescence several centimeters high
Flowers white or cream with yellow or purplish tips, club-shaped.
Fruit: capsule containing many brown net-textured seeds.
Culture: endangered.
