12.3 Ceiba pentandra
Trituration proving 14-3-2011, Lamu
Prover 9, Prover 13, Prover 8: Kapock (FĂĽllhorn mit BaumwollfĂĽllung).
The fruit oft the plant is hard, brownish, long, very light.
Inside we find a silky-cottonish material, very soft and smooth, like angel´s hair, with a sweet agreeable smell. It is bulging out, like out of a cornucopia.
This filling is partly blown away by the wind while we look at it…
We have to change place 3 times, until, at last, we are not disturbing anybody else.
C1
Women.
Women being occupied with work, like in the kitchen, they could talk about the ingredients.
Prover 9: "Trituration is just hard work, I cannot follow the conversation anymore. I am associating corn becoming corn flour, hunger, malnutrition. Something that is growing slowly, but then turns out to be very solid and stable.”
Sadness, as if tears were stored behind the eyes. It has to do with the hardship and transience of life.
Heaviness. I am tired.
Prover 13: "Long, open hair, like a lion. Femininity, appearance more serious putting ones hair up or not? Cosy warmth in the complete body, down to the toes.”
Prover 8: "Also my day is exhausting, everything is too much. Sickness, feeling very tired, urge to lie down. It is about the hardship of women’s everyday life.”
We are not alone, but in a group, which feels comfortable.
Prover 13: "I feel hungry again.”
Prover 8: "There are no men present in the women’s everyday routine. When the husband comes back home, the wife has already cleaned everything, tidied everything up, as if nothing had happened.”
Prover 9: "Teratomes".
Women’s values, what are they?
Without any sense; or without any reason, motiveless.
Everything has do be done by hand.
WORKING.
We are living on an estate in East Prussia, we are the ladies oft the manor, working hard.
Prover 9: "There are so many girls who have to work instead of going to school, depending on the country from the age of 6 or 12 years on. This is a waste of potential, of intelligence, of energy."
Prover 13 and Prover 8 are VERY tired, want to lie down.
Prover 8 has no illusions, feeling of heaviness, hopelessness.
Prover 10: "What would happen if you wouldn’t do your duty?”
Prover 8: "The people would talk badly. The children wouldn’t be nourished well enough.”
Prover 9: "I like it, cooking is creative and fun.”
Prover 13: "I have no idea. It has been like this forever."
Prover 10: "What is the most important thing?”
"Business needs to be continued. Everything has to go on.”
Prover 13 is humming while triturating.
We sing old folk songs from Germany, dealing with home country, departure, homesickness, farming, harvesting, autumn, for example "Aus grauer Städte Mauern, Seemannslieder, Im Märzen, der Bauer, Im Kanon: Theo, spann den Wagenan”; about "Ernte, Landwirtschaft, Herbst”; this gives us a feeling of consolation.
"It is nice on the estate in East Prussia: planing for the guests, cooking, baking, thinking about elaborate recipes, getting prepared, discussing, being in pleasant anticipation. (e.g. goose with plums, stuffed duck with apple, sultana, marzipan).
Reading out a book or news, Prover 13 is reading out to us.
Talking about cooking, spices, planing and organisation fort he guests, kitchen-organisation, also about fashion.
Again: longing, wanderlust (Fernweh), actors: Heinz RĂĽhmann, Prover 7 Albers: this longing glance.
C2:
The 1900 - 1930’s.
Prover 8: "Now we reach the late 30’s. There will be the second world war. Banishment, evacuation, fleeing.”
Prover 13: "I start feeling sick. I am going to sleep.”
We were banished from the estate. On a hay wagon we are part of a track fleeing. There was just the time to get a few belongings packed in a hurry.
Starting a "new" life in Hamburg: establishing a commerce in a typical granary.
The 50’s: the economic miracle (Wirtschaftswunder), we are belonging tot he elegant, established "upper class", we have made a fortune.
Now we don’t have to work in the kitchen anymore, we have people working for us. We are "somebody”.
Prover 13 is coming back (wo warst Du, Prover 13?): "I am totally tired. I don’t want to continue… I don’t care at all. I am fed up. Bock auf nix…Es ist mir alles völlig egal. Bock auf nix.”
Prover 9 and Prover 8 talk about sarongs, about us going to the Opera, the Philharmony.
Trade: we are trading with linen, woven fabric, cotton, roasted nuts.
Prover 13: Without me, I retire because of my proceeded age. I am just worn out.
Prover 13 triturating: I don’t want to, the scratching is absolutely useless.
Prover 9: We are independent, we are the leading ones. It is all illusionary, is this exploitable (usable?).
What about just stopping?
Prover 13: "I wouldn’t care at all. The thing I want to do the most is to go to bed.”
C3
Prover 9: "Let us go to Canada. To a plantation. Or to the United States. "
Prover 13: "The main issue is to leave at all.”
Prover 13 is going to sleep.
Prover 9: "Talking about famous persons as Elisabeth von Arden and Helena Rubinstein, who have succeeded an made a fortune with Cosmetics in. Going to Manhatten. Being successful. Again and again we start again… to build up our lives. Again we succeeded to be rich. ARE WE HAPPY? No, the deeper sense is missing in our lives.”
Desperate rowing..?.
Where and what is the solution?
Party, Dancing, celebrating.
Is the solution: the lightness of being, Die Leichtigkeit des Seins? Enjoying life. Just living easily.
Prover 19 is triturating and scratching the last round for the sleeping Prover 13.
Prover 19: "This is a completely new situation for me. I am triturating myself, and as well I have to trust the group in their way of dealing the process. I don’t know, whether to laugh or to cry.”
