English: Carnivorans.
Name: Carnivora from Latin caro, flesh", and vorare, to devour.
Zoology: 280 species; diverse in size from the least weasel with 25 g to the southern elephant seal with 5000 kg; they have teeth, claws, and binocular vision adapted for catching and eating other animals.
Taxonomy: evolved in North America out of members of the family Miacidae; soon split into cat-like and dog-like forms; Feliformia and Caniformia.
