KAURI or AGATHIS AUSTRALIS
Kauri trees dominate the forests of northern New Zealand.
They are the lords of the forest, with their enormous height and bare trunks. These conifers can live to be over 2000 years old.
The crown on the top spreads out immensely, with large, wide branches.
The trunk of the young trees (up to 80 years old) is red and contains a resin that keeps the tree free of insects.
The wood is light, stable, durable and without knots.
The resin is used for linoleum and stain.
