Abroma augusta

Case 1

2 year and two months
The complaint is that Melissa constantly has colds, sinusitis, otitis and pneumonias. She frequently needs antibiotics, say once every two months; four moths ago her adenoids were removed. ‘Never the less she gets worse in the course of time’. Even when she is severly ill and has high fever (40 degree) she jumps, dances and is gay. When ill she sleeps less, wakes frequently and cries a lot; this ameliorates when she takes antibiotics.
Looking at this girl of just 2 years old she impresses me as being nice, happy, restless and defiant.
Her development was extremely quick but partly because of her restlessness. She could turn herself both ways at the age of two months by moving relentlessly and by tilting her head backwards (DD opisthotonus). She was and is very long for her age
The parturition was very heavy; the childs head was big and and the mothers bekken narrow; “It felt like pushing against a stone wall”. She was extracted by forceps and probably had a commotio cerebri and got suppo;s during one week. After that the crying started: first week (second after birth) she cried 4 hours, the second week 10 hours and the third 15-20 hours. She was ontroostbaar and this lasted for 8 months, then lessened; the mother sometimes fainted from this crying. Other people did not believe, or could not imagine the situation because ‘it is such a beuatifull child”. It improved reasonably from the age of eight months by treatment of a manueel therapeut who diagnosed KISS syndrom.
Now she still throws her head in the neck to see everything around her; she sees far to much and then gets overstuur.
Although she has improved considerably she cries a lot; the best way to help her is to hold her tight for one hour till she quiets down; all that time she cries and wrestles. At least once every night she wakes and draws all the attention she can get, for example by hammering her toys against the door of her room for one hour. Mother is trained not to take her out of the room and talks to her from the other side of the door. Mother says that she never felt powerles; “I go for it”.
About her character her mother says that the girl is busy, nervous and restless; she is never tired, can continue hour after hour. At the other hand she can be very patient when drawing, playing or binding her shoe laces even when ill and restless.
She is naughty, is defiant and has stong willpower; “She is three children in one”.
She never feels at ease with anybody and desires to hold the hand of the parents for a long time.

She has anger tantrums (driftaanvallen)She is clever, bij de hand, and her development is 7 to 9 months quicker then avarage.

Family. Mother, aunt and grandfather are ‘nervous’ and chaotic. Mother and father both had recurrent otitis with eardrum tubes etc. There rather much bronchitis, astma and reuma in the family.

Food. Hydrolysated milk and cowmilk free untill 18 month. She eats well and desires everything (3), fish (4), meat (2), ham (boiled 2 and smoked 3), salt (3), spicy, (3), ketchup (2) fruit (2) and is very thirsty (3).
Stool is strange like peasoup: brei, yellowish brown. Sometime ago it contained slierten, darmslierten: threads and mucus.
Temperature: not asked.
Sleep: (see first part). She talks sometimes during sleep, does not grind, does not sleep with a pacifier.

For repertorisation I took: Injuries of spine, Aversion milk, Injuries of the head and Desires fish. This gave Nat-s, Nit-ac, Calc-p Arnica and Hypericum as prominent remedies. In ‘Small remedies’ was Abroma augusta because desire fish and I learned that it was in a family with Kola and Chocolate, all containing caffeine. So I gave Abroma and the second and last consultation was by phone because it went excellent and mother was to busy. The girl had not been ill anymore, no inflammations, no ear ache,and she was much more quiet. She had a strong relapse when her sister gave her chocolate sprinkles on her bread; she screamed, jelled, was restless and struck her head against the table (she had never tolerated chocolate; it had improved very much allready since Abroma!).

Many symptoms from provings and repertory are found in the patient:
“Easily excited and easily angered. Contradiction unbearable. Quarrelsome.
Cheerfullness. Immoderate laughing. Better bending backward. Voracious appetite. Bronchitis.
Desire: all kinds of food, fish, meat, juicy things, salty things. Thirst for large quantities of cold water.
Furthermore it is a hormonal remedy. Absence of sexual desire in males. Extreme exhaustion after coition. In female: menstrual disorders. Dysmenorrhoea or amenorrhoea. Colicky pain in lower abdomen before or during menses. Worse Commencement of flow. Leucorrhoea, thin, acrid, whitish discharge,
