Calliergonella cuspidata

Region: common.
Habitat: in moist, base-rich habitats, marshes, mires, flushes, in grassland, among rocks; frequently in clay soils, in lawns, in relatively dry places in calcareous habitats, such as chalk, limestone grassland.
Identification: quite recognizable moss.
Botany
Moss: medium-sized; mixed with other mosses; forming green, yellow-green or occasionally orange to brown patches.
Stems: 3 to 8 cm long; erect; side branches pinnately arranged, the whole shoot having a flattened appearance. The most distinctive field character is the shape of the shoot and branch tips
Leaves: closely rolled-up, forming a smooth needle-like or spear-like point; 2 to 3 mm long, narrowly egg-shaped, never curved, bluntly rounded at the tip, with a short, double nerve, with strongly differentiated, colourless patch of cells in the basal corners; branch leaves are smaller.
Growth form: pleurocarp.
