Region: high mountains of southern Europe, Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, Sierra Nevada, Scandinavia, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Jan Mayen, Svalbard eastern Greenland.
Habitat: arctic–alpine; the highest-ascending plant in the Alps, flowering at over 4000 m.
