Region: south America, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guyanas.
Habitat: rainforest; intolerant of seasonal inundation; favouring well-drained, sandy soils of moderate fertility, full sun to moderate shade; drought tolerant.
Use: wood for general construction, simple furniture, frames, boxes, tool handles; restoring native woodland.

Botany
Tree; aromatic; evergreen; fast-growing, pioneer; large, roundish crown, 8 to 16 metres tall.
Stem: short, cylindrical; 30 to 60 cm in diameter; thick bark; wood is moderately heavy, hard, compact, with moderate mechanical properties, not very durable.
Pollination: by bees.
