Name: leiophylla from Greek leîos meaning smooth and phyllo leaves.
Botany
Tree; 4 to 25 meters in height.
Leaves: shiny leathery; ± 15 by 5 cm; point at their tips; hairless; warty bumps; dark brown, greenish brown or black-brown above and brown or dark brown on their underside; petioles are ± 5 mm long.
Flowers: solitary or in pairs; axillary.; pedicel 1 to 5 mm long.
Calyx: 3 oval-shaped sepals, ± 3 by 6 mm; hairy when young, smooth when mature.
Corolla: 6 petals, in two rows of 3; outer petals are white, ± 10 by 8 mm, concave, densely hairy on their outer surface; inner petals are white, ± 8 by 5 mm, concave, smooth on their outer surface except for a densely hairy patch running from the tip to the base.
Androecium: numerous stamens, ± 2 mm long.
Gynoecium: 2 to 15 monocarps; yellow, brown, red or black at maturity; ± 1 cm wide.
Seeds: shiny brown; ± 7 by 8mm.
Pollen: shed as permanent tetrads.
