Habitat: savannah and transition to gallery forest; open, secondary formations; favouring poor, sandy soils on gentle slopes; sunny position; very drought tolerant.
Use of its wood; restoring native woodland; ornamental in landscaping; wood for making tool handles, boxes, rustic constructions, fuel, charcoal.
Botany
Semideciduous shrub or tree; dense, pyramidal crown; 1.5 to 12 metres tall; fast-growing; recovers well and easily from felling and fire; a weed in pasture land by cattle farmers.
Stem: straight, cylindrical; 20 to 30 cm in diameter; wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, poor mechanical properties, poor durability.
