Region: east tropical Africa, Tanzania.
Habitat: rainforests, lowland and montane forest; elevations from 800 to 1000 metres.
Ecology: population is severely fragmented, continuing decline due to habitat loss from expanding agriculture and alien invasive species.
Use: food; wood for poles, tool handles, bedsteads, spoons, fuel; inner bark powder as a spice in soups or tea.
