Gossipium
Slave abortion
This medicine is prepared from the root of the cotton plant. The first mention of it was in allopathic journals, where the statement was made that an infusion was commonly resorted to by the slaves for the purpose of causing abortion. Its pathogenesis proves that its sphere of action includes the internal and external genitals, and the reflex nerves connected therewith.
Pregnancy menses
It causes, and has also cured, anorexia and nausea at the time of the menses; morning vomiting in the early months of pregnancy, with violent retching, tendency to fainting, soreness on the uterine region; the nausea appears on waking, and the vomiting on first raising the head; only a thick fluid and a little bilious matter is ejected, with passage of wind both ways.
Dr. Williamson reports cases of amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea and menorrhagia cured by Gossipium.
It has been prescribed it successfully in scanty menses, painful or painless. In amenorrhoea, with anaemia, gastric derangements and debility, it has seemed to act well. It has been recommended for sterility from uterine torpor; for lingering labor from the same cause.
Does not show emotions, pains heart stomach
There is no fear mentioned but it has ailments from emotional excitement with anxiety in the pit of the stomach, palpitation of the heart. Gossipium may be very excited but it fires back upon them causing several 'ailments from excitement' and complaints of heart and stomach. It does not show anger.
The Malvales have many pains 'extending inward' and this is an example for this feature. The situation of the slaves in America, picking the cotton, was comparable. Gossipium has the symptom 'Desires to travel' ('with my banjo on my knee')
It relieves its problems by eating: eating ameliorates several symptoms.
