Papaver somniferum

Case study 3

He comes from fear of cancer. The urologist did not explain what the elevated amylase means for pt: Well elevated, no therapy needed.." Pt concluded to have cancer..!
"It grinds through my head, it must be cancer. I have had a major setback since then: I am suddenly very tired (*Dullness fr emotions)".
"I help many dying people and now it is my time".
Pt appears to have two sides:
1) As a preacher and observer he can look at and talk philosophically about people's lives and their fears about death.
"Dying is no problem for me. Dying is 'Goodbye'".
"I try to be one with the dying person and to share the pain and only when the dying person dares to share the pain is it good".
(Core of Opium?)
When a college of pt says to dying people, "You shouldn't cry," then pt is rebellious. Pt wants to meet the dying, walk together, they tell you their secrets and you look for new ways. Fine!
When the plane from pt landed in an air pocket: pt observed the fear of death of family and other travellers. Philosophical: I want to immerse myself in the human being: during the flight, the soil underneath the human beings was beaten away (lett and fig). This gave me insight into my task: as a counsellor I have to focus on giving people a soil under their feet.
(Core of Opium: falling from the sky into the earthly valley of tears?)
I can distance myself. Not everything belongs to me. So rationally. You have to be satisfied.
In my opinion, wise, involved and ostentatious, philosophical.
When it comes to his own life, he is often very fixed on his own end.
He is very busy with himself, trying to see himself 'in the right perspective'.
I have always had spiritual peace when I am guiding the dying, but when I have something wrong it is gone (>>>Op).
In the past I would talk to my wife and children before an operation: "if I die, don't look at the loss but at the beautiful moments". "One (also Pt) links operations to dying, but after 200K I looked at life.. (so no more fear of the operation!).

Response to Opium.
In previous operations, pt had many complaints after the anaesthesia. He also doesn't tolerate morphine very well.
After opium 200K he is very fit despite surgery. Everyone is surprised, even after surgery: quickly fit, no urinary retention or constipation.
