PSEUDOTUGA MENZIESII
Douglas fir (max. 100 m)
Belongs to the Pinaceae family. These giants can grow up to 100 m high, with a diameter of four meters, and more than 1300 years old. It is one of the dominant evergreen trees in North America, especially in California. The forests stretch out in hundreds of miles. Between the bare, high trunks hangs an old, sacred atmosphere, like in a cathedral.
This spruce is the number one spruce for the timber production of North America and produces more usable lumber per hectare than any other tree (except for redwood). The Dpuglas fir grows everywhere, is cut down and re-grown. The tree also falls down easily by itself, after which new shoots grow out of the dead tree.
