Synonym: Scirpus setaceus.
English: Bristle club-rush; ristleleaf bulrush.
Region: cosmopolitan;; cool, tropical and temperate climates; Eurasia, Africa, Australasia; introduced in north America.
Genus: ± 70 species; formerly mostly included in Scirpus.
Botany: perennial herb, forming mats; habitat moist and wet, often in coastal regions, sometimes inland; stems very thin, grooved, erect or arching, up to 20 cm high; leaves short, flat, thick blades; inflorescence a solitary spikelet, ± 2 mm long, or a cluster of up to three spikelets. These are accompanied by a stiff bract extending past the flowers.
