9.3 Europium carbonicum case

A woman of 50 years of age has Wegener's disease. It started with inflammation of the gingival and periodontal tissue. Later she developed inflammation of the nose, which led to a saddle nose. After that she had inflammation with scarring of the trachea. The trachea became so narrow that she could hardly breathe any longer, so a tracheotomy was done. She was treated with corticosteroids and methotrexate. She thinks it had to do with the tensions of 9/11 and her husband often being in Iran.
In the past she had herpes zoster on her right hypochondrium with stitching and itching. It was worse from excitement and exertion. She has a feeling of tension in her upper teeth.
She is very thorough, very correct, a real Capricorn. In the past she was pedantic, always knowing better and convincing others. She has the feeling that she has a lot of experience and knows what she’s talking about. She has worked many years in a recruiting business, writing publicity material. But she realized some 10 years ago that being right 10 times is no guarantee of being right the 11th time. Since then she had learned to watch how people are, instead of shaping them. She can see that “things are as they are”. Her desire for freedom also led her to let people be free. She always wanted to be free and thus married late. But her husband soon left her and went to Australia. She never moaned about it, because “one doesn't fuss” and it gave her back her freedom. She wants to be left in peace now to read books. She’s very philosophical and searches for relationships in the world and between God and the world. Also with her disease she asks herself what the cause is. Sometimes she thinks that she has done something wrong in a past life or wasn't thankful enough. But thinking of these things and her disease is of no help. Sometimes one has to accept, one cannot question everything. It’s better to think of nice things. Her father was domineering. Her childhood was very protected. She doesn't complain. Financially she has no worries.
Dream: inheriting the clothes and jewels of an old lady.
Dream: inheriting a dog from an old lady.
Dream: she found a dog on the beach, it came from the sea, she took the dog home and cared for it; later she once wanted to go out, the dog held her back; later in the night a lot of dogs were barking outside; her dog barked back and then the other dogs stopped barking; in the morning she saw all the houses around hers had been burnt down.

Analysis
Wegener’s disease is an auto-immune disease and as such is an indication for Lanthanides. Her desire for freedom and independence confirms this.
The theme of being the wise guy, the convincing one, fits Europium in particular. It can also indicate Ruthenium, but that’s from the Silver series and in Stage 8, so there the convincing has a more pressing quality.
Her philosophical attitude also fits the Lanthanides but it can also indicate Carbon, especially with her thinking about God. The scarring is a strong confirmation for Carbon.
Together this leads to Europium carbonicum.
Follow up
After Europium carbonicum she has a four day aggravation with hoarseness and dyspnoea. After that she starts doing better and feels better. The lower part of the tracheal scarring is already less after a month. The higher-up scarring is still the same. Her energy is better.
Six months later she's doing fine. She has reduced the corticosteroids to a quarter of the former dose and has no attacks anymore. When she tried that in the past she immediately had an attack. But then she stopped her homeopathic treatment, feeling fine as she is. She fears disruption of her state were she to continue homeopathic treatment.
